Worldwide Interfaith Day of Prayer

May 14 is a worldwide interfaith day of prayer, fasting and works of mercy to ask God for an end to the coronavirus.  This day was proposed by the Higher Committee of Human Fraternity, and Pope Francis is encouraging Catholics to participate.  Below are some ideas of how you can participate while staying connected to our parish community.

Prayer

Join a virtual Mass

It’s still the month of Mary!  Pray the rosary as a family

Fasting

This is during the month-long Muslim celebration of Ramadan, in which they fast from sunrise to sunset.  Perhaps you can also fast (whether from food or from something else) all day long

Give up something you enjoy, and donate the money you saved to a healthcare organization or the needy

Works of Mercy (or works of charity)

Donate to Food Ministry

Call a neighbor and spend time in conversation

Make a card for someone who may be lonely

“Prayer is our greatest weapon against the virus.”

“What will we remember from this time? The things that unite us.”

“Let us pray to feel like Church, family, and to defeat the pandemic.”

“Let us pray so as to love neighbor”.

“In the face of the coronavirus, we cannot be demoralized.”
